VMware reply to Microsoft hyper-v
Started Jul 30 at 9:38 ET (By bhanukir7)
Vmware to counter the impact of MS hyper-v has released its ESX3i which was earlier a Embedded version as a installable version free and what else it provides 999 licenses free. This is really going take a major share from the SMB market which otherwise microsoft was targeting.
This strategy of Vmware will certainly add more customer base to the already growing VMware implementations.

I think VMware needs to focus on delivering a good product.. with the recent blow to it's stock price it looks like the only way is up. Personally I don't hold the stock but follow the company - the market has proved once again that it has zero tolerance for high P/E's... and although VMW has a better case then others explaining it's P/E (young product, new technology) it got wiped out with the rest of them..

Hi
technically speaking about the products VMware is really light years ahead of others when it comes to delivering virtualization products. And it was had a niche market, but Microsoft jumping into this segment you would see a slight change in the earnings of VMware. Now the profitability of VMware would be dependent upon its marketing or positioning the product. With the recent free offer of ESX3.5i version it is certainly going to kill the immediate threat from MSFT. But that may not be for long.
So the outlook for future would be wait and watch.
In the short run buy when it dips and sell when it raises. Any price below 34 is good as it is getting some ressitance at that price and any rise upto 36 is a good price to sell.
