If you missed the opportunity on Google in 2005 because you felt that the stock was too expensive at $204 a share, I can't blame you. A lot of investors did... myself included. which means that we missed out on a very nice 184% gain.
Will the story repeat it self when looking back at a $56.07 VMware stock in three years? Time will tell, of course, but I think the answer is yes.

lol you're just a n00b if you feel stocks are "expensive" because of what they cost PER SHARE It's just a number, buy less of them, percent growth per day is all that matters.

Lowrance, I think what shlomi means by "too expensive" is that some people thought Google was overpriced at 200$ per share on 2004 when not long before they went IPO at about 80$ per share.
Many investors are afraid to buy into a stock that has had a steep run up feeling that it must balance down, but as long the price keeps rising go ahead and buy. You can always sell if the price starts to descend.

still amazed it is a $500 stock. I guess i don't understand the biz model fully as I look to see how much I personally pay GOOG each month and it is $0. Adsense must print money.

A very appropriate picture for you, spookytoes if you don't know how much money Google makes... sure I didn't agree they were worth the $725 that they were a few months ago; but once Android comes out (if it's a hit), I could see GOOG topping 800.

Lowrance, you can be sure Google is cooking up a lot of other stuff except Android. check out Gears for one: http://gears.google.com/
I think we're going to see quite a few more rabbits pulled out of the Google hat.

you think MSFT and AAPL are going to lie down and let Android steamroll over them? They may very well not have a choice just asking.

I just hope Google does more things like Android instead of meddling in DoubleClick and other cookie-based spyware. I hate them for putting Google Toolbar and Google Desktop on all new Dells, having Google Updater come with Google Earth, and not to mention everything from Java, Flash, Winzip, and Acrobat Reader defaulting people into installing Toolbar and Desktop... they'll do anything to make a buck and I'd be glad to use them if they were actually SUPERIOR to anything useful. Bribery and trickery isn't a way to get me to use your products (I work in the IT Dept and I delete Google registry keys and DoubleClick cookies like there's no tomorrow)

VMW is an enterprise software so I'm not sure it can grow at Google's pace, but I do think very favorably about this company and own it in my portfolio. Last night's news is great, but this is a long term 'buy' for me.
