Oil prices pushing to new highs, the signs are that the world is at or near its maximum oil production capacity. Does this mean Peak Oil has arrived and a new alternative solution is bound to happen? I don't think so Photovoltaic solar power was first invented at the 50's, Wind and water have been used to power mills for centuries - long before the electrical grid was created, yet none of them managed to replace fossil fuel.

A radical shift in investment in favor of cleaner, more efficient and more secure energy technologies can make a change.

It can make a change.. but how much? Nothing will give us what oil provided -- stick a straw in the ground and get a fountain of incredibly dense, free, highly transportable ENERGY. Wind and solar will pick up some slack but they are finite resources in of themselves (there's only so many places out there that get good wind).

Nothing is "bound to happen" though, my friend. Oil was a treasure chest we will not discover again. I think mankind will undergo a period of poverty until, hopefully, we can identify fuel sources that are not an end-product of time (fusion, solar, etc). America will feel it the worst, guzzling 25% of the world's oil as she does.

Funny thing is - only a 3rd of the world's oil is used to power vehicles like cars, boats and plains.. now I can see where a moving vessel would need light weight fuel on the go. The rest of the oil goes on powering the grid which is a damn shame. It's near sighted governments that make the conscious decision every day to rape the land and mortgage their children's future for the sake of greed. Burning the planet is simply easier and politicians haven't the guts to tax fuel power - that's all you need to get solar, wind, nuclear and hydro to power the grid.
Arawak my friend, you know that where there is a will there is a way.. damn, i saw the other night on TV that power can be easily generated from wave power..
These are dark ages my friends, no doubt.
