Our market data is delivered several minutes in delay. For this reason, whenever you post a trade, we want to make sure that we record the correct price. We do that by waiting for the most recent data to arrive, then we check back to see the correct price for your stock at the exact time you made the trade. Your transactions will remain pending until then.
So if you've recorded a trade on the weekend, for example Saturday afternoon, your trade will remain pending until we get stock values for the begin of trading on Monday morning, US Eastern time.
To keep the game fair, you must prove the trades were made on a given date and time. One way of doing this is by verifying or scaning your trading account with your broker. We think this procedure will cause privacy concearnes for many of our members, so although we might offer it as an optional solution in the future we currently ask that you start a 'fresh' portfolio.
Since we update your portfolio performance and new trades each business day after closing bell, trades made will appear in your portfolio following the next known closing price. So if a trade was made on Saturday morning, we will update it to your portfolio Monday afternoon. Transactions are "Pending" until that time.
Weather you're going for Guru glory or content following others, it is in your best interest to show your stocks and the ratios between them in an accurate way.
This can assist your Guru in analyzing your portfolio and making some suggestions if you ask him to. This will provide an accurate account of your returns too. Over time this is the best way to shine in the community and become a Guru yourself.
Don't forget - your portfolio value is never visible to anyone but you! Others can only see each stock's percentage in your portfolio.
When you hire Gurus, you receive Instant alerts whenever they post a trade. Other members can only see your Gurus trades 30 days after they are posted. You also gain access to your Gurus entire portfolio. Other members see only their top 10 holdings. As a follower, you also recieve Private Notes from your Gurus. This is your Gurus way of keeping you updated with the thoughts and reasonings leading his or her portfolio decesions.
Here are a few insights we've gained and would like to share on how to become a great Guru:
1. Be a Brogger huh? A Brogger is a cross between 'Broker' and 'Blogger' and these are the skills we think you'll need to become a community leader. You'll need a killer portfolio to compete, but you'd be wise to use words as well. Voicing your strategy and reasoning for trades is key in gaining follower attention.
2. Defend your strategy participate in open discussions and make an argument for your stock choices. A sound argument that makes sense is the way to attract positive attention.
3. Don't forget 'Private Notes' Your followers expect extra attention. Getting alerted when you trade is only one aspect of being a good Guru. Public opinions are the way to recruit new followers. Use private notes to keep in touch with your existing followers and update them on your current thoughts and progress of your portfolio. Encourage your followers to write you and introduce themselves.
Yes. Dividends are calculated into your portfolio return and chart performance. If you've held the stock on the X date, your virtual account will be credited on payment date. There is no option to re-invest Dividends (DRIP) at this time.
A 'Private Note' is a tool for Gurus to stay in touch with their followers. Each Guru, depending on his or her individual style will use this feature to update followers on thoughts and reasonings that define the portfolio strategy.
As a Guru, you will want to use this feature with care, as each 'Privat Note' triggers an e-mail to your followers. Decide if you want to send weekly, monthly or timely reports to your followers.
Once you've found a member you want to follow, go to their Guru page and click "Hire". If you've already got 3 Gurus, you will be asked to let one go, before you can hire the new one.
Any member with at least one follower is a Guru. Market Guru shares 50% of it's revenue from paying premium members with it's Gurus, based on the number of followers each has.
The 'Stocks' area is where we provide you with key statistics, Community Sentiment and other stocks owned by members owning the researched symbol. It's a good place to start your Guru search from as well. Choose a specific sector and drill down to find hot stocks and great Gurus specializing in the sector.
The MarketGuru Sentiment is the aggregate sum of 'buys' and 'sells' performed by members, rated on a curve, so a top member's trade gets weighted higher than lower ranked members.
When we launched the site, we realized we need to let our members gain some trading history before their portfolios are attractive enough and worthy of payment by followers. For this reason we've awarded new members a one year free premium membership, but this deal will not last too long. As soon as we end our limited time offer, members will have to pay to Hire Gurus, and that's when we'll start sharing revenue with our Gurus. In other words, we won't be earning until you do :)
Your opinions are attached to your Guru page and help members get to know your investing style better. This is a main factor in a members decision to hire you as his or her Guru. Your opinions will be published on relevant stock pages, according to the tags you've attached to your opinion and on sector and general pages.
